THE RACKET : A HOLIDAY PLAYLIST

THE RACKET : A HOLIDAY PLAYLIST

PLAYLIST _ HOLIDAY.png

I always come into the making of HOLIDAY playlist with a lot of ideas about how I’m going to “do it differently this year.” I’m always trying to find the weird 80s jams, the ones with the heavy synth and the super monotone vocals crooning some overplayed holiday standard. And always in my search for these tracks I stumble across someone like Detroit Junior bringing the funk to a song like “Christmas Day” or Bobby Timmons laying down the off-kilter piano on “Soul Time” or Sugar Chile Robinson giving it his youthful all on “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer.” I always find myself drawn away from the colder notes of electronic renditions and pulled towards the warm embrace of soul and funk and, this year, a little rock ‘n’ roll. And so, seeming as always, our annual HOLIDAY playlist is a jumble of tracks that spin out the emotional weight of the season. The Wailers track - “Maybe This Year” - is an all-timer for me. Just a blast of fuzzy sadness that I can’t get enough of. And yeah, Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmas” doesn’t exactly fit as the last song. But damn it, it’s the catchiest holiday song of all time and it will find a home on every HOLIDAY playlist I ever make.

Anyways, if the holidays are something you celebrate - happy holidays and thanks for hanging around this year. If this is just another few months at the end of the year, we appreciate you hanging out with us this year and we hope your home, happy and safe.
