THE RACKET : LIST 27
If you start a mixtape with a song by Leonard Nimoy you really have no direction to go but cosmic. Nimoy, the venerable Spock from the OG Star Trek series was also a dedicated musician who put out a ton of albums of what you might call “space lounge.”
Anyways, this particular track–”Antares”–is a stone cold chiller seemingly pulled from the gaping maw of a sonic black hole and delivered to your home planet. It is just the start of what I like to think of a slightly space-bound sonic journey.
And by that I mean these are songs that feel like the great distance between molecules of dust in the cosmic tapestry hanging over our heads. They feel like moments that drift between two celestial bodies. They might not be indicative of planets and rings and flying saucers, but they feel like what you might run into if you were just floating through the darkness of outer space.
