THE RACKET : LIST 14 - Holidays Be Damned
The holidays really mess us up.
It is not just because of the crushing obligation (and liver-pounding alcohol consumption) part and parcel of this delightful season of giving. It is this, but more so, it is the fact that as the holidays approach we start thinking about the perfect holiday mix, that collection of seasonal jams constantly percolating in our grey matter we know we're going to get to sliding into a playlist this year.
"Start thinking" is the wrong way to put it, because quite frankly, all year 'round we've been dropping choice "holiday" jams into our "The Racket - X-Mas" folder fully ready to slap together a truly genre-defying collection of tunes.
The holidays approach, we start doubling-down on obsessing over what soul-inspired version of "Sleigh Bells" will kick us off, what holiday-themed interludes from the cheerier days of the 1950s we'll find a space for, what rap ho-ho-hip-hop should bring the beat. We'll stare at our screens and we will ponder and we will shift and refine and we will ready ourselves to drop the needle on a truly epic journey of holiday-esque proportions.
And then we will scrap everything, cobble together a list of grit-toothed blues and rough edged international funk and just a touch of modern proto-punk to round it all out and blast it into the universe, holidays be damned.
Why? We wish we could tell you, but we can't.
Someday, maybe that gift will appear under you holiday tree of choice.
Until then, we hope you still enjoy.
