THE RACKET : LIST 10 - Hurt in the Morning

THE RACKET : LIST 10 - Hurt in the Morning

We wanted to make a party. Not a party playlist (though we've got enough Jagged Edge and late-90s Nelly to make a real banger, don't you worry) but a party told in ten songs. Ty Segall opens the door. It's quiet, kind of awkward. Mikal Cronin turns up the music, pours some shots before Julia Jacklin gets you real drunk, messy drunk, standing on the edge of the coach just screaming at your stupid friends to dance, dance, dance drunk. The party stays hectic but it hits a groove with The Woolen Men, still spilling out on occasion but mainly just ripping forward at a nice, even pace. And then it gets weird with Julia Holter. And then it starts to wind down, to get cruise-y with Joan As Police Woman and Dumbo Gets Mad and Blood Orange. And then Labrinth makes it weird again, party-ending weird, a guy falling through a screen door and hitting his head and just, call it quits my friends weird. And you want to go home but Cate le Bon invites you on to the roof and it's still warm and the sun is just rising and your eyes are heavy and you know it's going to hurt in the morning, but right now, right now is just so goddamn wonderful.

See? A party. But in songs.

Also, David Berman died. This is sad. We are sad. And we wanted to celebrate his beautiful music and his jaw-dropping lyrics and to mourn the loss of a tortured man who made sweet, sweet music. It's there, our celebration and our mourning, right there in the end.
