THE RACKET : LIST 33 - Cured Meat

I don’t even know what to call this playlist. It’s a toy box full of gems, a picnic basket full of cured meats, a drawer full of the things you’d thought you’d forgot. A few thoughts on this myriad of tunes:

1. Alex Vega was one-half of Suicide. Which is amazing in it’s own right, but even more so when you realize that every song he did outside of Suicide is also totally rad. This track is like a dance party on the bad beach that ends in a knife fight. So, totally up my alley.

2. Dry Cleaning is a real grower for me. Upon first listen I was like, “Oh, this is just a lady talking over music.” And that is what Dry Cleaning, well, is, but it’s also totally rad. Like a spoken word show with a scuzzy garage backdrop that possibly ends in a knife fight. Gimme more.

3. Light In The Attic Records is releasing a tribute to Roky Erikson this weekend just f’n jam packed with fantastic artists cover the sadly deceased psych-rock legend. Jeff Tweedy–he of Wilco–covered Erikson’s “For You (I’d Do Anything)”. Already a stripped down song, Tweedy strips it down to almost nothing, the broken glass and woodsmoke of his voice carrying it into a special place.

That’s it. That’s all. Give it a listen.
